In Song and Spirit explores themes of migration, Black womanhood, and the empowering role of collective memory in the preservation of African American culture. The film features live performances of the spirituals Deep River, I'm Troubled in Mind, and The Angels Have Changed My Name, arranged by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and transcribed by Dr. Ashley Jackson. This film also features vocalist Freddie June and is produced and directed by filmmaker Malik Isasis.
The Metamorphosis of Ismaila Ba is the story of two women who meet in a cafe. There is an undeniable attraction, even as each of them sees the depth of the other's pain. Things immediately get complicated when they are brutally attacked in what seems like a random act of violence.
